The climate crisis affects us all! But it doesn't affect everyone equally, it especially affects the people who have contributed to it the least. Already existing inequalities will be further exacerbated by the climate crisis. Capitalism as an economic system based on exploitation and profit maximization plays a significant role here. The solution therefore requires intersectional and anti-capitalist approaches.
As the ÖH Uni Wien, we would like to identify these issues and share visions of transformation with you and work on them. Because of this, we are organizing the Sustainability Week from April 22nd to April 28th with a leftist, intersectional and social-ecological focus.
We're looking forward to seeing you!

23.04. 18:00-20:00: Sustainability in Academia
We find ourselves in the midst of both a climate and social crisis. Higher education institutions play a crucial role in individual and collective transformation, offering a powerful platform to address these challenges through deep reasoning, innovative transformations, and collaboration. Join us for an engaging workshop on sustainability in academia!
In the first part, we will kick things off with an interactive introductory lecture on sustainability, spiced up with live quizzes, exploring the role of universities, and the challenges they face to tackle the global crisis.
In the second part, get ready for a hands-on and collaborative experience!
Together, we will brainstorm specific actions each stakeholder – whether students, academic staff, deans, or research funders – can take to enhance sustainability.

28.04. 12:00-16:00: Conscious Clothes Gifting
Conscious Clothes Gifting is about conscious and mindful giving. It's not about the quantity or number of items, but about the individual value of the things. We also reject the practice of barter because it excludes people who have no means of exchange. We advocate slowness and a conscious examination of the things in question. Questions like “Do I really need this?”, “How could I combine this item of clothing?”, “Does this top fit my style?” or “What occasion can I wear it for?” can help you avoid hoarding clothes randomly and without reflection; instead, a conscious and reflected consumer decision is encouraged. The same applies when giving away clothes: instead of giving away large quantities of clothing, conscious clothes gifting is more about consciously choosing things that could bring joy to other people. This means that this event is not intended to dispose of old, poorly maintained clothing, but rather offers an opportunity to get new favorite items.
