The zeitgenoss_in is the magazine of the ÖH Uni Wien (Vienna University Student Union). Our aim is to inform students about their studies and the university, their rights and opportunities. We also offer critical voices a space to write about education, politics and culture. We are always happy to welcome new and committed authors. Current Call for Papers, Illustrations, Comics and Photographs

Hey! Do you feel like sharing your creative outlet with us?

We’re currently brainstorming for our upcoming issue of zeitgenoss_in and are looking for contributions on the topic of HEALTH – whether in the form of text, illustration, photography, or comics.

Have you ever asked yourself to what extent health is political? What experiences have you had – have you ever felt frustrated with the healthcare system? Are there aspects you appreciate? How do you organize your personal health – and what role do your environment and social media play in that?

Perhaps you’ve also experienced that certain conditions or illnesses are less visible than others – whether in medical contexts or in society. Whose health is taken seriously, and whose experiences remain invisible or difficult to grasp?

You’ve probably also come across some buzzwords: neurodiversity, gender-specific inequalities in treatment, PMS, ME/CFS, mental health, bureaucracy, support services, and more. Questions around psychological well-being, stress, and emotional strain may also be relevant.

Or maybe you have a beautiful or dystopian story in mind – visual or literary – that engages with health, or with what is often overlooked?

There are no limits to how you interpret the theme.

Texts: Send us your article concept (max. 1,000 characters), briefly outlining the format, length (either 3,000 or 7,000 characters including spaces), structure, and your perspective.
Visual works (photography, illustration, comics): Send us sample images, your portfolio or website, along with a few thoughts on your approach.

Feedback from the editorial team will follow and the editing process will begin

Accounting

Submit all necessary documents, including a copy of your ID, after the concept has been selected
Payment may be delayed due to bureaucratic procedures

Subscription

If you are not studying at the University of Vienna and would still like to receive zeitgenoss_in, you can register for a free subscription. The ÖH Uni Vienna will pay the postage costs.

At the moment, all students at the University of Vienna only receive every 3rd issue of zeitgenoss_in. If you would like to receive every issue as a student, please send us an e-mail to: . And if you don't want to receive the issues, then you can send us an email as well.

Forms for Authors

Procedure for submitting forms

The signature of the person receiving the money does not have to be in the original; a digital copy/scan is sufficient.
Then send to .

In order to write an article for zeitgenoss_in, authors must first fill out the following forms: Freier Dienstvertrag zeitgenoss_in (Freelance contract for zeitgenoss_in).

If you have not yet submitted a Stammdatenblatt (master data sheet) (i.e. you have never written an article or held an elected position at the ÖH Uni Wien), you must also submit this along with a copy of your student ID/passport.

Afterwards, the Verrechnungsblatt (Zeitgenossin invoice) form must be completed.

Que(e)rformat (Dezember 2025)

Diese Ausgabe nimmt sich den Raum, den Queerness braucht – laut, vielfältig und kompromisslos. Sie hinterfragt gesellschaftliche Normen, blickt auf queere Kämpfe weltweit und vor der eigenen Haustür und macht sichtbar, wo Widerstand, Solidarität und gelebte Kultur stattfinden. Zwischen politischen Analysen, persönlichen Gesprächen, Erinnerungen an queere Pionier_innen sowie Kunst- und Kulturberichten zeigt sie: Queeres Leben sprengt Grenzen – und eröffnet neue Wege, die wir gemeinsam weitergehen und erstreiten.

Reality-Check Studieren (Oktober 2025)

Der Studienstart bringt neue Räume, viele Fragen und oft auch finanzielle Sorgen mit sich. Diese Ausgabe begleitet dich durch dein erstes Semester, erklärt, wer dich an der Universität vertritt, und zeigt, wie du dich im Uni-Alltag gut zurechtfindest. Neben Tipps und Erfahrungsberichten bietet sie Orientierung, macht auf Herausforderungen aufmerksam und gibt einen Überblick über Unterstützungs- und Fördermöglichkeiten, die dir den Einstieg ins Studium erleichtern sollen.

Begehren im Kapitalismus (Juni 2025)

Die diesjährige FLINTA*-Ausgabe der zeitgenossin begibt sich auf die Spur eines der flüchtigsten und zugleich grundlegendsten Phänomene: dem Begehren. Was passiert, wenn Liebe zur Ware wird, wenn Beziehungen der Logik von Effizienz und Matching folgen? Die Texte fragen, wie Entfremdung wirkt – in unseren Beziehungen, in unserem Zuhause, in unseren Vorstellungen vom 'guten Leben'. Und sie zeigen Möglichkeiten auf: Für eine solidarische Lebensweise. Für neue Allianzen. Für Räume, die geteilt werden, statt verriegelt.

ÖH Wahlen 2025

In dieser Ausgabe möchten wir euch die wichtigsten Informationen rund um die Wahl mitgeben. Doch darüber hinauswollen wir auch die grundlegende Frage stellen: Welche Rolle spielt die ÖH – und welche könnte sie spielen? Die Universität kann – und soll – ein Ort des Austauschs, der Gemeinschaftlichkeit und der gegenseitigen Stärkung sein. Eine starke ÖH ist nicht nur eine politische, sondern auch eine soziale Notwendigkeit.

Zeitenwende oder Dauerschleife? Wege aus dem Faschismus (Dezember 2024)

Anlässlich der Nationalratswahl, die im September stattgefunden hat, widmen wir diese Ausgabe der politischen Landschaft in Österreich. Welche Auswirkungen hat der immer salonfähiger werdende Rechtsextremismus? Ist die sogenannte ,Brandmauer' gegen Rechts ein Schutz vor antidemokratischen Akteur:innen? Wir haben Studierende und junge Journalist*innen dazu aufgefordert, über mögliche Wege aus dem rechten Sumpf Österreichs nachzudenken. Die Vielzahl an Artikeln, Interviews und Rezensionen sollen ein Anstoß zum Weiterdenken und Aktivwerden sein.

Die Zukunft in Deiner Hand (Oktober 2024)

Diese Ausgabe richtet sich an alle Erstsemestrigen der Universität Wien. Wir geben einen Überblick über die Arbeitsweise und Struktur der Studierendenvertretung, stellen unsere zahlreichen Arbeitsbereiche, Fördermöglichkeiten und Beratungsangebote vor und werfen außerdem inhaltliche Fragen zur Zukunft der Studierenden auf.

Von Resignation und Hoffnung (Mai 2024)

Diese Ausgabe hat Resignation und Hoffnung als politisches Denkwerkzeug zum Schwerpunkt. Dabei stehen die Fragen "In welchem Verhältnis stehen sie zueinander? Wie können wir sie mit kulturellen Phänomenen in Beziehung setzen? Woran verzweifeln wir und worauf können wir hoffen?" im Mittelpunkt.
