Exemption from the radio and telephone fee for recipients of a study grant ("GIS-Befreiung")
Recipients of grants according to the StudFG (e.g. "Studienbeihilfe", "Selbsterhalter*innen-Stipendium*, "Studienabschluss-Stipendium", "Studienunterstützung") are entitled to be exempted from the broadcasting fee ("GIS-Gebühr") and to a monthly allowance for telephone charges. The prerequisite for this, however, is that the net household income does not exceed a certain limit. The monthly subsidy for the call costs can be redeemed with certain providers in the telecom sector (fixed or mobile network).
The application for exemption from the broadcasting license fee (for radio and television sets) and for the granting of the subsidy towards telephone charges is accompanied by the notification of grant ("Stipendienbescheid", copy), the registration form ("Meldezettel", copy) and proof of the income of all persons living in the household and possibly a rent confirmation as well as the confirmation of a rent subsidy ("Mietzinsbeihilfe") or housing subsidy ("Wohnbeihilfe").
